Profile PhotoAn amateur photographer, ardent traveller and avid runner who calls San Francisco home. Born and raised in Japan. Moved to northern California after 21 years, seeking exposure to Western cultures. Bought the first DSLR in 2010 and is in pursuit of perfecting captivating imagery in cityscape, landscape, architecture, and sports. Looking to photography to uncover and explore artistic side of me.

Fascinated by natural beauty, cityscape, and athleticism. I cannot get enough of photographing them. Particularly, vivid colors in nature, lights and shadow in cityscape, and unspoken energies in runners catch my eyes and my Nikon D90.

Passionate about running, as seen in my other blog, My Life as a Runner.

nice images … what is GIMP?

    • Koji Kawano says:

Thank you, Brenda. GIMP is an open source graphic editing software, much like Photoshop. You can download it free from the GIMP organization. I don’t feel like paying a lot of money for Photoshop when there is a good alternative.

I enjoy your photography and am pleased you like mine also. I do wonder at your move to “.org”. Is there a reason that it works better for you I should look check out?

    • Koji Kawano says:

The reasons for the move is multi-faceted, but basically I have less restriction hosting my own site. WordPress.com is great to start a blog and its community is valuable (basically, I have to build my followers from scratch). But I envision my blog to have more than photo and journal; ie. more functionality that would require adding javascript and other codes. So, in a long term, I am hoping it will pay off.

    Hi Koji,

My wife, Yasuko Kawano, and I live in the Bay Area and thought you might be related.

Please ping us back if you have time. Your pictures are amazing.

    • Koji Kawano says:

      Hi Eric.

Thank you for the email. I don’t think Yasuko-san and I are related. At least, I am not aware of, from understanding from my parents. My family is from Kyushu, though some of the members have spread out through different parts of Japan now.
